Purpose:
The Mississippi State Personnel Development Grant (MS-SPDG) supports the development and expansion of effective, positive learning environments in Mississippi through implementation of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). By improving the subject-matter knowledge and evidence-based practices of special and general education teachers, school and district administrators, university faculty, agency staff, and State department of education personnel, the MS-SPDG facilitates achievement of the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards by students with and without disabilities within a Multi-tiered System of Support. This work is conducted within an evidence-based professional development model, relying on both process and outcome data to drive decisions.

Method: 

  1. Activities:  Systematic training and coaching on implementation of UDL and PBIS based on the work of the National Technical Assistance Centers. Selection criteria are articulated and all activities are thoroughly evaluated.
  2. Population:  Personnel at schools and districts implementing UDL and/or PBIS; Juvenile Detention Centers and Therapeutic Group Homes serving students with disabilities; parents of students with disabilities; State educational agency staff leading and/or providing professional development; institutions of higher education faculty; and participants in Mississippi's Early Learning Collaboratives.
  3. Evaluation:  All activities are conducted and evaluated using evidence-based methods outlined in logic models to ensure fidelity of implementation.
