SPDG Behavior and School Climate Webinar: Implementation of a Middle School Bullying Prevention Program: Research Findings and Implications. Presenter: Rhonda Nese, Oregon Social Learning Center, Doctoral Candidate, University of Oregon. Description: The purpose of this session was to present and discuss a research project that evaluated the effects of a middle school bullying prevention program, titled Bully Prevention within Positive Behavior Support: Expect Respect, on the verbal and physical bullying behaviors of middle school students. Data assessing the fidelity of intervention implementation indicate that the program was used with high fidelity and that in each of the three schools a reduction of verbal or physical aggression in the cafeteria was documented via direct observation. No consistent changes were reported in student pre-post rating of school climate. Session attendees heard how they can utilize multi-source data to better understand the impact of bullying prevention programming in their schools, and strategies for school-based and district-wide implementation.

Tertiary Behavior Intervention Models in Elementary and Middle Schools: Lessons Learned About Model Sustainability and Spread (PDF, September 2012, SRI Project). The Model Demonstration Coordination Center coordinates the work of OSEP Model Demonstration grantees, whose projects aim to develop new practice, procedure, or program models for children and youth with disabilities on the basis of theory and/or evidence-based research. Each model demonstration project (MDP) then implements its model in typical settings, assesses impacts, and, if the model is associated with benefits, may go on to disseminate it. MDCC staff members have been studying the implementation experiences and outcomes achieved by the five cohorts of MDPs funded since 2005; each has focused on a single new and promising (or perhaps poorly understood or implemented) practice, procedure, or program that is deemed to have high potential for improving child outcomes. MDCC has worked with the MDPs to establish consistent design elements, such as sample definition and selection, data collection methods and timing, and instrumentation, and to synthesize cross-MDP data. The second cohort of projects, the subject of this report, implemented models that demonstrated interventions for students with the most serious behavior problems using a three tiered model of positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS).

BEHAVIOR PLC SESSION: PBIS Illinois Cohort 2 Model Demonstration Project Overview (PPT, 2012 , Eber) For this session Lucille Eber, the Principal Investigator for the PBIS Illinois Model Demonstration Project, will be sharing tools, measures, and new ways of thinking developed over the four years of the project. She will specifically concentrate on how to work with administrators so that they can help their teachers to support students with more intensive needs. She will also describe how the project reconceptualized teaming and intervention models in the schools.

Using Data for Student Success: Schools’ Use of Academic & Behavioral Data Systems in a Problem Solving Model (PDF Flyer, Utah, 3/2012). ABC-UBI is Utah's SPDG-funded project focused on supporting schools' implementation of best practices in academics and behavior in a Multi-Tiered System of Supports model. The project emphasizes data and how data have been used at the site and state level to drive decision-making. This PDF describes specific data managements systems and tools.

Culturally Responsive PBIS: Modifications of Tools to Include Culturally Responsiveness. These tools - EMS Rubric, Culturally Responsiveness Assessment (CRA), and 5 X 5 Walkthrough - were developed by PBISIS Indiana for use by state, district and school staff. The most important tool is the EMS Rubric. The rubric shows how they've modified standard PBIS fidelity measures to include issues of culture. The CRA and the 5 X 5 Walkthrough are interesting in that they are different methods for getting at some of the same dimensions of cultural responsiveness in a school.
