Abstract | Basic Information | Improvement Strategies
The New Jersey Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (NJOSEP), under the competition CFD 84.323A, is seeking funding to implement a state improvement grant; Partnerships for Access, Equity and Outcomes Project. The New Jersey's State Improvement grant 9NJSIG) application is responsive to the challenges identified through NJOSEP's self-assessment process, recent federal compliance reviews, and the vision of key self-assessment stakeholders, to maximize the development and learning of children and youth with disabilities ages birth to 21.
NJSIG's foundational goals include: (a) Creating positive and effective school environments that promote (1) participation of students with disabilities in the general education curriculum, academic, nonacademic, and extra-curricular program and school community;and (2) successful transition of students with disabilities to adult life and community inclusion (Inclusive Environments/Transiton Planning); (b) Creating positive and effective school environments that foster collaboration with families of student s with disabilities (Family-School Collaboration); (c) Fostering the successful transition of children with disabilities from early intervention to preschool programs (Early Intervention to Preschool); and (d) Recruiting gen eral and special education personnel prepared to educate students with disabilities in inclusive programs (Personnel Shortages).
The NJSIG will contribute to comprehensive statewide systems change regarding access, equity, and positive outcomes for students with disabilities.
