Purpose
This project aims to expand teaching expertise and create capacity within the State’s infrastructure at local, district, regional, and State levels. Specifically, the project is designed to: (a) increase performance results for students with disabilities as measured by Statewide assessments and district assessments; (b) increase retention of special education personnel in Nevada teaching assignments; (c) reform Nevada’s system of teacher development to link and align preservice, licensure, and professional development in order to sustain the delivery of high-quality instruction and rigorous content for all students; and (d) increase administrators’ capacity to provide leadership that increases outcomes for students with disabilities.
Method
The project will embed evidence-based practices and solidify improved policies for increased student achievement, teacher retention, personnel development, and leadership to support and sustain quality results. The reform design is based on an analysis of needs, builds on current state educational systems, and uses and enhances networks presently in place and supported by existing resources. Project design establishes linkages with local, regional, State, and national agencies and organizations providing services to target populations (teachers, administrators, parents, students). Further, the evaluation approach will include not only traditional formative and summative measures, but will also pay particular attention to collecting and using implementation data to monitor progress and ensure successful adoption of new innovations to achieve the targeted results. Guided by these various data types, the project will also expand relationships among critical partners and bridge educational systems to realize its goals.
